Whataburger Sets Its Sights on Largo, Florida
Fans of bold burgers and late-night fries, rejoice — Whataburger is officially coming to Largo. The popular Texas-based fast food chain is bringing its signature orange-and-white stripes to Pinellas County for the first time, marking a major expansion for the brand on Florida’s Gulf Coast.
New Location Confirmed on Ulmerton Road
Construction is now underway at 7300 Ulmerton Road, right across from the Largo Mall. If you’ve driven through the area recently, you may have spotted the cleared lot and early construction markers. While Whataburger hasn’t confirmed an official grand opening date yet, site work began this spring and is progressing steadily — putting an opening potentially on the radar for late 2025 or early 2026.

Why the Hype?
Originally founded in 1950 in Corpus Christi, Texas, Whataburger has gained a devoted following for its oversized burgers, 24-hour service (at many locations), and crave-worthy menu items like:
The classic Whataburger (a true Texas-sized sandwich)
Spicy Ketchup and Honey Butter Chicken Biscuits
Dr Pepper milkshakes
Customizable burgers and breakfast served all day
With over 950 restaurants across the South and Southeast, Whataburger’s expansion into Largo shows just how fast the brand is growing in Florida — especially in the Tampa Bay region, where fast-casual favorites are booming.
What It Means for Pinellas County
Until now, Pinellas County Whataburger fans needed to make a serious detour — the closest locations are up near Jacksonville and the Panhandle. This new location brings a major convenience factor and adds to the growing list of high-demand chains opening in the area. For Largo locals, it's another sign that national food brands are seeing big potential along Ulmerton Road.
And if this location performs well? You can likely expect more Whataburgers to follow across Pinellas in the near future!
A Growing Trend on the Gulf Coast
Whataburger isn’t the only big name staking a claim in Pinellas County. The region has recently welcomed several other national chains while continuing to support a thriving local food scene. From chicken joints to gourmet taco spots, Largo is evolving into a surprisingly competitive food corridor.
